NO MOURNERS NO FUNERALS
by Andrea Maravic
Life does not come with instructions
Open only when necessary for your soul
A glass bottle popping up with feel good emotions
No! (Do you hear me?)
You are steering the wheel
You hold the compass
Pass through it all
Swim if you have to!
Let your goggles get muddy and cracked
Let your clothes drench in tears if they have to
Let your days pass like 1000 suns in the desert
Again and again
No water in sight
Walk the never ending walks on unknown paths
Let your limbs become limp and useless
Let your mind visit hopeless places that make false promises
Try new life potions, mix some cocktails
Open your mouth and pour the colours in
Let your soul be completely and utterly lost
Take her to a staring contest
Don’t look at them
Only you two
Take notes until your fingers burn
And then come back
Open eyed
Open hearted
You never needed any goggles to begin with
Come back through that desert that almost swallowed you alive
Ride those dunes with your own words
Cancel the under-deliverers
Wave to sharp teethed creatures lurking in the depths
You are their friend now
Exit the mist without the shield
Plain naked in your canvas
No more counting days
You get only one
Just think how boring life would be if
You weren’t the owner of your own brush
